Physiotherapy

Paediatric physiotherapy is a specialised type of physical therapy.

Paediatric physiotherapists must obtain further qualifications after completing their initial physiotherapy training. During their post-graduate studies, they acquire specific knowledge and training in the latest techniques for the treatment and care of children and cover a wide range of subjects including child development, neurology, orthopaedics, and cardio-respiratory conditions.

Paediatric physiotherapists are experts in caring for children of all ages – from newborns through to teenagers up to about 18 years old. They focus on goals defined in partnership with the child, their family and transdisciplinary care team. Through movement, therapeutic physiotherapy programmes promote rehabilitation of dysfunctional structures and functional limitations; readaptation in cases of injury or disability; and the prevention of later problems.
